Vettel finds today’s F1 too complicated

Even though he is an integral part of modern Formula 1, with his four world titles won between 2010 and 2013, Sebastian Vettel laments, however, that the pinnacle of motorsport has become too complex.

Indeed, according to the German, technology has taken up too much space compared to the driver’s talent: « I believe that primarily it should be first and foremost a sport and it should focus on the driver’s speed. Currently, cars play a more important role than in the past. However, we must not get lost in the complexity of the regulations. »

Of course, the undisputed dominance of Mercedes over the past two years hasn’t done the best for Formula 1: The dominance of Mercedes during the last two seasons has somewhat diminished fans’ interest in the discipline. On top of that, the regulations are too detailed. I think we must not lose sight of the roots of this sport.

The history of Formula 1 seems important in Vettel’s eyes. Not surprising for a driver who constantly reiterates his attachment to Ferrari, the legendary team in the discipline where he could see himself ending his career: « I am not the kind of driver to constantly switch teams, year after year. For the moment, I feel very happy and we have goals that we want to achieve together [with Ferrari]. »
