Qatar is close to having its F1 GP
According to the President of the Qatar Automobile Federation, the Middle Eastern emirate has never been closer to having its name included in the global Formula 1 calendar.
It has been known for a long time that discussions between the representatives of Qatar and Bernie Ecclestone have been ongoing for many years. The Formula 1 supremo is eager to organize a Grand Prix in the emirate.
Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Attiyah, the President of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation, is very confident about this prospect: « Recently, we were very close to signing a contract to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix. » he stated to the newspaper Doha Stadium Plus.
« The entire project is complete, but there are still a few details to settle. We must continue to be patient. We still need to have some meetings with Bernie Ecclestone. We need a little more time, but we have the solution. » he specified.
The circuit is not yet defined, but they still have several choices according to Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Attiyah: “We can use the existing circuit, but we also have the possibility of having a new one in Losail. We have many projects coming up and we are ready. We want to build a very strong motorsport culture in the region. I hope that Qatar will become the hub of sport in the Middle East.”
