Hamilton and Rosberg are satisfied at Mercedes
Despite a first day of free practice disrupted by rain, both Mercedes drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, are satisfied with the work accomplished.
For once, Lewis Hamilton largely dominated his teammate during the first day of free practice at the Monaco Grand Prix.
However, since the start of the season, Nico Rosberg has often been the fastest at the beginning of the weekend. But even if the German did not manage to beat his teammate yesterday, he is quite happy with his performance: “It’s great to be back on this legendary circuit, the car was fantastic,” he said last night. “Monaco is the highlight of the year for me. We are very fast here, so I’m quite confident for the weekend. I couldn’t really perform today [yesterday], there was way too much traffic, so the next practice session on Saturday morning will be very important.”
Trusting the first place in both FP1 and FP2, Lewis Hamilton starts the weekend in the best possible way: « It was a good first day for me. Every year, I am amazed by the speed at which we drive here, with so much information coming at you that you have to be more reactive and agile than anywhere else. The goal is always to achieve the fastest possible pace by being very precise with the settings. Now we need to work well tomorrow. »
On his side, Toto Wolff is not unhappy with the performances of his two drivers: « It’s a satisfying first day in unusually cool and wet conditions. Lewis quickly found his rhythm and seems confident with his top times in both sessions. Nico also had a good day, even having touched the rails a bit, which didn’t allow him to improve his time in FP1, but he was competitive in FP2. »
