Force India: No major developments before Silverstone
While Force India had announced a version B of its car for the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix in June, Sergio Perez admitted that it would rather appear in July, at the British Grand Prix.
Force India is having a solid start to the season despite the difficulties faced by the team since the end of last year. With their 11 points accumulated in four races, Vijay Mallya’s men have fulfilled their part of the contract by making the most of an aging car.
The B version of the VJM08 was supposed to debut at the end of June during the Austrian Grand Prix. But Sergio Perez, 13th in the drivers’ standings with 5 points, admitted that it will be necessary to wait until the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in July to see the new lines of his car: « We would have liked to have the new package for Barcelona, but it was not possible. I think Silverstone will be the first race where we will have our new car. Of course, we are currently lacking pace, but I think the efforts we have put in during the first four races are really something special considering the pace of the car. » he declared on the sidelines of the Spanish Grand Prix.
The Mexican remains confident and proud of the work done so far by his team: « Being only 12 points behind Red Bull represents a colossal effort. We must stay optimistic. Here in Spain, we’ll surely have a race similar to the last four. I think it will be particularly difficult for us given the importance of downforce on this track, and that’s what we’re lacking the most. »
