Renault brings a modified version of its power unit to Barcelona

Often criticized by Red Bull and Toro Rosso since the start of the season, Renault needed to respond to reverse the trend. On the eve of the start of the European season, with the Spanish Grand Prix taking place this weekend, the French engine manufacturer announced that it had made significant modifications to various aspects of its power unit.

Having taken advantage of the three-week break after the Bahrain Grand Prix, Rémi Taffin, the operations director of the brand with the diamond, announced that the power unit would now be more flexible and more reliable: « The three week break gave us the opportunity to study all the information collected since the start of the season. We have worked tirelessly to provide a solution to the issues encountered so far. We will also have a modified version of our engine in Barcelona, which should offer us greater reliability and better drivability. We can’t wait to be there and see all our efforts come to fruition. »

The characteristics of the Barcelona circuit, perfectly known to all, will be a great help for the development of the engine manufacturer’s improvements: « Barcelona is a much more classic circuit compared to those raced so far this season. The layout is much more fluid. It mainly consists of corners negotiated at medium and high speeds, rather than long straights followed by slow, tight hairpins. The circuit also offers gradients that follow the contours of the surrounding hills. This makes Barcelona a relatively moderate track in terms of the stresses on the power unit, which therefore must be efficient at all levels. » concludes the French engineer.
