Magnussen wants to become a starter again as soon as possible
Left on the sidelines in favor of Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button at McLaren-Honda, Kevin Magnussen, who made his Formula 1 debut last year, wants to quickly regain a starting position in the discipline.
After a start to the 2014 season marked by a podium finish in his first Formula 1 race in Australia, Kevin Magnussen encountered more difficulties in keeping up with his experienced teammate, Jenson Button, for the rest of the year.
At the time of making choices for 2015, and with Fernando Alonso’s return to Woking, the Dane was left on the sidelines, being overtaken by Button, who was strongly recommended by Honda and had a convincing end to the 2014 season. But even if the disappointment is evident, Jan Magnussen’s son is ready to fully concentrate on his new role as the third driver: « Obviously, I was disappointed not to be selected by McLaren-Honda for a main driver position in 2015. But I’ve put that behind me and now I’m fully focused on the upcoming season. I am really proud to be part of this team and to restart a historically important partnership. »
The importance of his role in the upcoming season should allow him to prove his abilities once again: My new role as a test and reserve driver is truly an important responsibility, and I am determined to prove my abilities and demonstrate what I can do also off the track, behind the scenes, in the simulator, by analyzing data and providing quality technical feedback to the engineers. Fighting at the front remains our main objective. This will give me a lot of work to develop the MP4-30 to improve its performance in the hands of Fernando and Jenson.
A new mission that could allow him to return to racing quickly? The Dane is convinced: “My goal, of course, is to get back in a race seat as soon as possible. I will give 100%, on and off the track, to build on my experience from last year and show what I am capable of, while demonstrating to McLaren that they were right to maintain their trust in me.”
