Official: Bianchi still unconscious, with no change in neurological condition

To mark the end of this sad year 2014, the Bianchi family decided to officially communicate about the health condition of Jules, who was seriously injured last October while driving his Marussia during the Japanese Grand Prix.

Hospitalized in Nice, with his family, after being repatriated from Yokkaichi, his condition has not undergone major changes. The family just confirms that the 25-year-old from Nice is breathing unaided and will start a rehabilitation therapy program, but his neurological condition remains unchanged.

Here is the full content of the Bianchi family statement released today: « As we reach the end of a difficult year for our family, we wanted to take this opportunity to provide an update on Jules’ medical situation, in our commitment to communicate when it is appropriate with his many fans.

It was a significant and comforting step for us to be able to bring Jules back to France last month, to continue his rehabilitation, surrounded by family and friends. It is very important for Jules and also for us.

Since then, Jules has received the best treatment in the intensive care unit of the Nice University Hospital, and now in the rehabilitation center of the University Hospital, which treats this type of trauma.

Jules’ neurological status remains unchanged. He is unconscious but can breathe unassisted. While there is no significant information to note, we are reassured by the fact that Jules continues to fight, as we knew he would, and this has allowed the healthcare professionals caring for him to begin planning, with a lot of rigor, the therapeutic rehabilitation program.

As we reflect on the events of the past few months, we would like to acknowledge once again the warmth and affection shown to our son. These remain difficult times for our family, but the recognition from so many people around the world has helped us. We would also like to thank the media for the respect and support shown to our family during this period, for which we are very grateful. We will continue to provide information when possible, and we thank everyone who continues to pray for Jules.
