Ocon behind the wheel of the Lotus during FP1 in Abu Dhabi
The Lotus team has just announced that the recent Formula 3 champion, Esteban Ocon, will be given an E22 during the first free practice session of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this Friday.
The young Frenchman, Esteban Ocon, recent European Formula 3 champion, will officially be driving for Lotus this Friday during the free practice sessions of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The Frenchman, a member of the team’s young driver program, had already tested a 2012 single-seater on the Valencia circuit and impressed the team. Lotus’s sporting director, Federico Gastaldi, decided to give him his chance this Friday: Esteban is a superb young talent and we are particularly excited to offer him this opportunity. He impressed all the engineers during the tests in Valencia, but this will be another step in his development program.
Additionally, Sauber announced that Chinese driver Adderly Fong will also make his debut in Abu Dhabi during the FP1. He is eager about having his first official experience in Formula 1: « I am very excited to make my Formula 1 debut in Abu Dhabi, but I also feel a little bit nervous. Last month, I drove a Sauber C31 in Valencia, and it was important to cover some kilometers to get familiar with the speed of a Formula 1 car. »
Lotus and Sauber have not yet announced which drivers will have to give up their place to Ocon and Fong this Friday morning.
