Montezemolo: Bianchi, the future of Ferrari
The current president of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo, stated that Jules Bianchi was indeed on the Scuderia's radar for the coming years. He also wants the circumstances of the Frenchman's accident to be clarified.
Luca di Montezemolo said he was very sad about Jules Bianchi’s accident, who is an important member of the Scuderia’s young driver academy.
The President of Ferrari has also confirmed that the team is counting on the Frenchman in the coming years to drive one of their cars: « This boy grew up with us, and we thought of him as a driver for the future. If, as I think we should, we had been able to field a third car in 2015, we were considering him to be our third driver, and he would have been perfect for the years to come. »
Montezemolo also revisited the circumstances of the accident and more generally, the safety conditions surrounding Grand Prix races in Formula 1: « Unfortunately, we can always talk about these things with hindsight, but we must think about what happened and whether something didn’t work at Suzuka. If there was something wrong, then we must change, » he declared to the Italian media.
Then, the one who will be replaced by Sergio Marchionne in a week added: « This was undoubtedly a very particular race with little visibility, at three o’clock in the afternoon and with a lot of water. We have also had other races under these conditions and nothing happened. The important thing is to understand the reason and prevent it from happening again »
