Ross Brawn does not want to return to Formula 1 at the moment

The announcement of the departure of Luca di Montezemolo from the presidency of Ferrari has caused unrest within the Italian team. While Sergio Marchionne, the current President of FIAT, will serve as interim president starting October 13, there are rumors that Marco Mattiacci, the current sporting director of Scuderia Ferrari, might be seeking the position in the short term.

In that case, who could replace the Italian at the helm of the Formula 1 team? While the Gazetta Dello Sport suggested this week that Stefano Domenicali could make a comeback, nothing has been mentioned from either party. Rumors have then emerged about a possible return of Ross Brawn, who was with the team from 1997 to 2006, the most prosperous period in Ferrari’s history.

But the British engineer who retired at the end of last season after revitalizing the Mercedes team, does not seem inclined to return to Formula 1, at least for the moment, as he confided to Auto Motor und Sport: « I am living a very different life right now and I feel good about it. I am determined not to return for a full-time job. »

Despite everything, Brawn leaves the door slightly open to a possible change in his mindset, without rushing into any opportunity that comes his way: One should never say never because you don’t know the options that may arise. But for the moment, I am focusing on activities outside of the sport that I never had time to do before.

His visit to Maranello, the headquarters of the Ferrari team, earlier in the year, last May, also caused a stir. But according to him, there should be no signs: « My visit to Maranello in May was purely private. We talked a little, in the style of ‘what if…’, but nothing very serious. »
