Sauber F1 will field Sirotkin during FP1 of the Russian Grand Prix
Formula 1 will be arriving in Russia for the first time in its history, providing an opportunity for Sauber F1 to give Sergey Sirotkin, their third driver, some track time at home.
Sergey Sirotkin, at 19 years old, will have the opportunity to drive for the first time during an official session after having driven for Sauber during private tests. He will line up for the first free practice session at the Sochi event in October. This won’t be the first time the young driver hits the track at the seaside location, as he had participated in a promotional event at the wheel of a Sauber C31 in September 2013.
He joined the Sauber team in 2013 and was long expected to take a full-time seat this season before Esteban Gutierrez was ultimately retained and lined up alongside Adrian Sutil. Sirotkin participated in the first in-season testing day in Bahrain, completing 76 laps behind the wheel of the Ferrari-powered C33.
This season, Giedo van der Garde has already driven seven times in thirteen Grand Prix during the free practice 1 sessions for Sauber.
