Sunday: Pérez enjoys with Button and brings points to Force India at the Italian GP
Seventh in the Italian Grand Prix of F1, Sergio Pérez did not hide his satisfaction after a race he considers "fun", especially his battle with Jenson Button. Nico Hülkenberg, never in the rhythm, finished out of the points.
Sergio Pérez (No. 11) – 7th
The Mexican finishes again in the top 10, with a nice seventh place and above all an entertaining race: « The race was very fun. We were always fighting with someone and always attacking. It was great racing and it’s good to score important points for the championship. »
He pays special tribute to his former McLaren teammate, Jenson Button: « The most important part of the race was the battle with Jenson, which was really beautiful and reminded me of the good old days. I know he’s a driver you can fight hard with and he’s always clean. At the end of the race with Kevin, I knew he had a penalty, and there was no need to attack him. I was able to focus on keeping Jenson behind me, which wasn’t easy. »
Nico Hülkenberg (No. 27) – 12th
Quickly isolated due to his initial strategy, the German did not experience an exciting race: It wasn’t a very eventful race for me. I was driving alone most of the time and doing my own race; not being in the slipstream or benefiting from DRS made it a bit more challenging. I got a good start, especially considering my hard tires, but I lost contact with the cars ahead of me quite quickly because they were on mediums and I didn’t really have the same pace. It was quite difficult to manage the car, especially at the rear: I had oversteer, and it was complicated.
Despite an earlier-than-expected pit stop to switch to medium tires, he was unable to catch up to his competitors due to this difficulty with the car’s handling.
