Saturday: Lotus F1 Digs for Positives at Monza
The Italian Grand Prix looks like another agony for the Lotus team, which is sorely lacking in top speed. Pastor Maldonado and Romain Grosjean are doing their best to stay positive.
Pastor Maldonado (No. 13) – 17th and 17th
For the Venezuelan, the positive is sought on the track: « We knew that qualifying would be difficult for us, especially with our lack of straight-line speed. Tomorrow is race day, and things should be better. We chose a small rear wing for Monza, and normally there should be an improvement in race pace; also, we have good control over tire degradation. »
Romain Grosjean (No. 8) – 19th and 18th
For the French, on the contrary, it is off track that we seek a resurgence of optimism: « It was not a perfect day. We knew the track wouldn’t suit us, and we also had issues this morning with the cooler which we changed during the break. It took a bit of time to finish the work, and we started our session a bit late after a coolant leak. »
« We knew the results would be tough, but I was really proud and happy to see that every mechanic showed up to prepare my car after Pastor left the garage. It’s a testament to the very strong team spirit at Enstone, even when the odds are against us. »
