Saturday: Kvyat ahead of Vergne but will start behind at Toro Rosso
No Toro Rosso in Q3 at Monza: that's the expected outcome for the Faenza team during the Italian Grand Prix F1 qualifying. Although Daniil Kvyat outpaces Jean-Eric Vergne on the track, he will start far behind him on the grid due to his penalty.
Daniil Kvyat (n°26) – 8th and 11th [21st on the grid]
The Russian considers that his qualification was good but can only regret his penalty, which relegates him to the last row: The 11th place is a good result in qualifying in the end, and I did everything I could, considering that the car was still a bit tricky to drive and it was difficult to have a good lap. It’s a shame that I’m not starting from the 11th but from the 21st position. […] It’s hard to say what we can do tomorrow because starting from the back is never easy.
Jean-Eric Vergne (No. 25) – 14th and 13th [12th on the grid]
The Frenchman, beaten by his teammate, is satisfied with his qualification but not with his car: « I did a good lap in Q1 and another in Q2, but it wasn’t enough to go into Q3. I know I did my best and couldn’t go any faster. So far this weekend, I’ve had a lot of trouble with the car. I think it’s the most difficult weekend since the beginning of the season in terms of the car’s handling. »
