Ross Brawn is not part of Ferrari F1’s plans
If Marco Mattiacci acknowledges that Ross Brawn would be an undeniable asset to any team, starting with Scuderia Ferrari, he explains that he is not part of Maranello's plans for the future.
It only took a few words taken out of context to reignite the rumor of Ross Brawn’s return to Ferrari. Already fueled a few months ago by the British technician’s brief visit to Maranello, it was this time an interview with Marco Mattiacci – the director of Scuderia – for CNN that revived it.
During this interview, surrounded by the brand’s single-seaters, the Italian, when asked about Ross Brawn, replied: « Ross Brawn is an iconic figure in Maranello. Everyone would like to have Ross or would like to see Ross return to Ferrari. He is one of the most respected personalities in F1 with the most important knowledge and pedigree. Everyone would be happy with someone like Ross. »
While he admitted to some discussions, Mattiacci stated that Brawn’s participation in Ferrari’s revival is not on the agenda. According to him, James Allison, the current technical director—who came from Lotus in 2013—is the man to rely on: « As I said, for now I am building a new team. James is the technical director, and I want to start from there. »
« For the moment, I am the number one on the team. I like working with what I have. We are building a very strong team with a medium to long-term plan. My role is to shorten this plan as much as possible to make it effective as soon as possible. We are laying the foundations for a victorious story. »
Reflecting on Ross Brawn’s case, Marco Mattiacci concludes: « To tango, you need two. Maybe Ross is happy with what he’s doing ».
