Friday: Lotterer equals Ericsson in his debut with Caterham F1
Highlight of this first day, André Lotterer had a rather good start to his Formula 1 career; he particularly believes he has adapted well to the Caterham CT05. On his side, Marcus Ericsson experienced difficulties, some of which improved during the afternoon.
Marcus Ericsson (No. 9) – 22nd and 19th
For the Swede, the morning session was disrupted by difficulties with the CT05: « We didn’t get the best start, as this morning I had problems with the brakes and some other technical issues, which we didn’t need. Despite everything, we managed to complete a few laps and gather useful information for the weekend. »
In the afternoon, however, things were better, especially in terms of braking: « FP2 was better for us. We solved the morning’s brake problems, so it was an improvement, even if we have to resolve the other issues for tomorrow, but it was a productive day. »
André Lotterer (#45) – 21st and 20th
The 32-year-old beginner believes that his first day went well and that he quickly found his footing in the morning: « I am very happy with the day. This morning the first testing session was good; I got used to the car quickly and now I need to optimize everything in terms of driving. Considering it was my first time with the car, everything went according to plan and I got a good insight into what driving the car is like. Now, we need to keep working like this and improve the car. »
Learning the behavior of the single-seater with soft tires was a new step for the three-time Le Mans 24 Hour winner: « FP2 was another good session and everything went very smoothly, even though we had to stop a little earlier due to a technical issue. It was indeed a different learning process with the soft tires – I went out not knowing what to expect, but I think it went very well. We were able to follow the program, making progress while learning and playing a bit with the car. We did a few long stints, and I’m really starting to feel comfortable with everything, even though I’m still in the learning phase. »
