Andre Lotterer with Caterham F1 at the Belgian Grand Prix?
Andre Lotterer, three-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner with Audi, could make his Formula 1 debut at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps. The German is reportedly close to finalizing a deal with the Leafield-based team.
The endurance driver for Audi, Andre Lotterer, is reportedly close to securing a deal with the Caterham F1 team to make his debut at the Belgian Grand Prix later this week. The information, not yet confirmed, was reported by our British colleagues at Autosport.
Open to changes in its driver duo, the British-Malaysian team and its new owners – an Arab-Swiss consortium – could use Lotterer’s arrival to bring new energy to the driving aspect. Caterham also announced that it would take advantage of the Ardennes race to introduce a significant package of upgrades.
Andre Lotterer could replace Kamui Kobayashi, who has been in a precarious situation for several weeks. However, pending a possible finalization of the agreement, the current duo he forms with Marcus Ericsson might well be present at Spa.
Lotterer has not driven a Formula 1 car since 2002, when he had the opportunity to test Jaguar team cars. However, he has not been inactive in single-seaters as he has participated in the Japanese Super Formula championship, which he even won in 2011.
