Ricciardo still believes in the title this year

After his two victories in Canada and Hungary, Daniel Ricciardo does not want to abandon his ambition to fight for the title this year. The Red Bull driver remains realistic, however, and acknowledges that under normal racing conditions, it will be very tough for him to beat the Mercedes.

Ricciardo still believes in the title this year

Daniel Ricciardo’s victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix has galvanized the Red Bull team. A breeze of optimism is blowing through the Austrian team, and the Australian still believes he can fight for the title, despite what some might think: There are clearly several opinions on this subject. If you look closely, I’ve moved up in the championship, but realistically, we still have a long way to go. But Seb [Vettel] is right to say that as long as it’s not mathematically over, nothing is lost.

The current third man in the championship still wants to take advantage of all the opportunities that may present themselves, as he brilliantly did in Hungary last weekend: « When some people say the title is lost, they are simply looking at Mercedes’ performances. Under normal conditions, during a normal weekend, on most tracks, they dominate. But days like last Sunday, with weather condition changes, safety car interventions… it helps us stay in the fight. We saw it, victory was within our reach, and we got it. »

The doubled points during the last race are clearly an advantage for the Red Bull driver: « With the system implemented this year, it will remain very open until the end of the season. We must continue to do everything we can. This will in no way change our approach. Whether we are in the running or not, we will always try to fight for the best possible position. »
