Sunday: Bottas on the podium, Massa on the roof for Williams F1 in Hockenheim
New podium for Valtteri Bottas who finishes in second place at the German Grand Prix of Formula 1, holding off Lewis Hamilton. For Felipe Massa, however, another disappointment after his spectacular first corner collision with Kevin Magnussen.
Valtteri Bottas (No. 77) – 2nd
The Finn, who has secured his third podium in three races, expressed his happiness at maintaining his 2nd place against Lewis Hamilton: « I am really happy with how the race went. As a team, we were unlucky not to have both drivers on the podium because we had the pace. Keeping a Mercedes behind us at the end of the race is a promising sign that it’s possible, and that the car is very strong. The engineers shared a lot of information with me about the tires and Hamilton’s position, and teamwork was key to this good result. »
Felipe Massa (No. 19) – Retirement (collision)
On the Brazilian’s side, the race only lasted a few hundred meters following his collision with Kevin Magnussen that landed him on the roof: « Fortunately, I’m okay, but I’m not happy. I was ahead in the corner and for another race to end because of another driver, it’s not easy. I’m doing my best, the team is doing their best, and we just have no luck. Going into the corner, I was close to Valtteri, but I had to reposition myself to avoid the crash, unfortunately, others didn’t do the same. I’m very disappointed, obviously. Well done, Valtteri, it shows that we have the car to be on the podium. »
