Official: Rosberg extends his contract with Mercedes

It is now official: Nico Rosberg has signed a new multi-year contract with the Mercedes team. Although no figures were mentioned in the team’s statement, it appears to be a long-term contract.

The newlywed (Rosberg indeed married his partner Viviane Sibold last week) is naturally very happy to be associated with a legendary and competitive team for the upcoming seasons: « I am very proud to drive a modern-era Silver Arrow. As a German, the heritage of Mercedes-Benz is very special to me and I am proud to represent the best car brand worldwide. The journey has been tough to get to where we are now. But everyone believed in it, and thanks to the fantastic support from Mercedes-Benz, we are now the leaders in Formula 1 […] I am convinced that we have the right people in place at all levels, and I am looking forward to spending the next few years together. We will continue to push to win more races, and hopefully, championships. »

On the side of the management team, the excitement is the same as Toto Wolff states: « Nico has been part of the Silver Arrows project from day one and has a major stake in the development of the team since 2010. His speed, commitment, and focus have helped to provide a clear direction to move the team forward. With his performances in 2014, Nico has demonstrated to the outside world what we already knew inside the team: he is one of the best drivers in Formula 1. This new contract gives us the important stability and continuity for the future, and I am very pleased to be able to make the announcement in time for the home race of Mercedes-Benz and Nico at Hockenheim. »
