Bianchi says he’s ready to replace Räikkönen in Germany

During the British Grand Prix held last weekend at Silverstone, Kimi Räikkönen suffered a very violent crash at the wheel of his Ferrari on the first lap of the race. The Finn exited his single-seater on his own and arrived at the medical center limping. He came out an hour later, aiming to reassure about his health condition, explaining a few bruises and a slight pain in the ankles.

However, the 2007 world champion had to withdraw from the two consecutive test days at the Grand Prix and was replaced by Marussia driver, Jules Bianchi, who is part of the Scuderia’s young driver academy.

The Frenchman, who is currently driving the F14-T, has said he is ready to replace Räikkönen for a longer period if the latter has to withdraw from the next race in Germany in about ten days: “Of course, in Formula 1, you have to be ready for anything,” he told our colleagues at Crash.net. “But currently, I race for Marussia and I just want to do my job for them. We are very happy with what we are achieving right now, so yeah, I feel ready.”

No communication has been issued from Ferrari, but it doesn’t seem that Räikkönen will have to forgo participating in the next Grand Prix. However, the other reserve driver for the Scuderia, Pedro de la Rosa, who posted the 10th fastest time in yesterday’s test session, has also positioned himself just in case: « It’s up to the team’s decision. I will do what is necessary. But I’m sure Kimi will be there. »
