Grosjean is ready to leave Lotus F1 next season

After a catastrophic start to the season, far from the expectations announced at the end of last year, Team Lotus and their star driver, Romain Grosjean, might part ways at the end of the year due to lack of results. The Frenchman says he is open to opportunities that might come his way.

Grosjean is ready to leave Lotus F1 next season

With only two points finishes and a thirteenth place in the drivers’ world championship, Romain Grosjean is far from the victory goals he set for himself at the end of last year.

The Lotus E22 and the Renault engine are the main causes of this debacle. The French driver, still in search of his first Formula 1 victory, might be tempted to look elsewhere if interesting opportunities arise. He shared this with our colleagues at PlanetF1: “You always think about the future. I’ve been with Lotus for a while now and I know the team very well. On the other hand, I still want to win races… so everything is open.”

Rumors link Romain Grosjean with the McLaren team now led by Eric Boullier, who is very close to the Frenchman. However, he remains cautious about his future destination and has not yet decided to leave his current team for good: « We often tend to believe that the grass is greener elsewhere. Sometimes it is, sometimes it’s not. There is a risk in everything, when you change engines or teams. We take risks every day driving the car. It’s part of the job. »

Grosjean’s ambition is, of course, to win Grand Prix races and become world champion. He proved last year that he could be a fast and reliable driver if his car allows him: « What I really want is to win my first Grand Prix and try to become world champion, and I’m focused on that goal. I miss fighting for the podium and drinking champagne on Sunday afternoons. That’s what I want, that’s what we all want, and once you’ve tasted it, you want to taste it for a long time. »
