McLaren: Ron Dennis puts Jenson Button under pressure

Since Ron Dennis returned to the head of the McLaren group, the team has undergone significant restructuring. The arrivals of Kevin Magnussen and Eric Boullier, as well as the recruitment of some renowned engineers, can be credited to him. The pressure is now on the team to aim for victory very quickly to regain its former glory.

This mission, dear to Ron Dennis, is also the goal of the team’s drivers. If they had been relatively spared from the sharp words of the British entrepreneur until now, the pressure is increasing on them, particularly on Jenson Button, who will reach the end of his contract in Woking at the end of the season.

The future of the 2009 world champion is far from assured, and Dennis takes advantage of this to urge him to make more efforts to push the team up the standings, as he told the British television channel Sky: « No one should feel threatened. Neither the drivers nor the engineers. All we want is to win. And we need to make decisions that will lead in that direction. Do I want Jenson to make more efforts? The answer is yes! He is a great driver and he is very well paid and of course, we are not currently giving him the best car, but he has to do his part of the job. »

The British teammate is also not left out: « Kevin must make it as difficult as possible for Jenson. In a way, you think: ‘Great, we made the right choice with Kevin’ but on the other hand, you also say: ‘Come on Jenson, you’re a world champion and if there’s one thing you absolutely must do, it’s beat your teammate!’ »

In conclusion, Dennis seems inclined to say that his duo of drivers would be quite complementary, which he expresses in his own way, in the purest style of the well-known RonSpeak in the paddock: « I am sure Kevin will wake Jenson up. »
