Caterham: a statement from Fernandes casts doubt on the team’s future

« F1 didn’t work out but I love Caterham Cars ». This is the statement from Tony Fernandes, owner of the Caterham team, which appeared on the Malaysian businessman’s Twitter account before it was closed.

It didn’t take much more for rumors of a possible sale, or even a cessation of activity, of Caterham F1 this season to resurface. Of course, this statement seems to convey the feeling that Tony Fernandes has decided to withdraw from his Formula 1 project, which began in 2010 under the name Team Lotus.

Since its debut in the discipline, the team has never managed to score a single point, unlike its back-of-the-grid competitor, Marussia, which opened its counter at the Monaco Grand Prix. Recently, Fernandes had to deny rumors regarding his team’s absence from the starting grid from the Austrian Grand Prix onwards, but the financial health of the team remained at the heart of the problem.

Other rumors have emerged following this tweet from Fernandes, suggesting a possible acquisition of Caterham’s assets by Colin Kolles’ new team, Forza Rossa, expected to join the World Championship in 2015.

However, no official information has been provided, neither from Caterham nor from Colin Kolles or the FIA.
