Massa and Pérez, penalized, have been discharged from the hospital
Victim of a collision and then two impressive crashes during the final lap of the Canadian Grand Prix, Felipe Massa and Sergio Pérez were admitted to the hospital but were discharged this evening.
Among the elements that made the 2014 Canadian Grand Prix spectacular, the final laps were decisive. This was especially true because the spectacular accident involving Felipe Massa and Sergio Pérez, at the beginning of the final lap, resulted in no injuries. In fact, *Autosport* reports that both men made a precautionary visit to the hospital, but were released without issue.
At the time of the accident, Sergio Pérez, then in 4th place, was defending his position against the attack of Felipe Massa. However, the two men collided, and the cars violently veered off the track at the end of the straight by the pits, ending their run against the tire wall. Rob Smedley informed the press that the Brazilian’s impact was measured at 27 g. Nevertheless, both men were able to exit their cars on their own.
The Mexican was also penalized 5 positions on the grid for the next Grand Prix in Austria following this incident. « Car #11 changed its trajectory, which caused the impact with car #19 at turn 1, » states the race director’s statement.
