Official: Kobayashi penalized, Maldonado reprimanded
Kamui Kobayashi will receive a 5-place grid penalty for the Canadian Grand Prix taking place tomorrow. Meanwhile, Pastor Maldonado has been reprimanded.
A gearbox change will send Kamui Kobayashi to the last place on the starting grid for the 2014 Canadian Grand Prix. As the regulations stipulate, a gearbox must last for six Grand Prix. However, during the third free practice session, the Japanese driver experienced a transmission problem that forced him to park his Caterham: the part was changed during the break.
For his part, Pastor Maldonado had to step out during the first part of the qualifying session. Upon leaving his car, which he parked in the run-off area at turn 3, the Venezuelan did not place the steering wheel back on his Lotus E22. The marshals were unable to move it quickly, yet the race management opted for a simple reprimand: « The Stewards noted that the car was not left in a dangerous position on the track and thus a reprimand was appropriate. »
