Friday: Alonso and Räikkönen satisfied at Ferrari
The first day of the 2014 Canadian Grand Prix of F1 went quite well for the Ferrari team, with promising starts for Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen.
Fernando Alonso (No. 14) – 1st and 5th
The Spaniard is satisfied with the tests carried out during the first Friday session on new parts for the F14-T: I am reasonably happy with the day because we accomplished a lot of work without encountering any particular problems. We tried some new parts and now we need to focus on a good understanding of their functioning.
He knows that tire degradation will not be a determining factor: « We must analyze the data collected to try to be as prepared as possible for the qualifications, also taking into account the fact that the behavior of the tires is very similar to what we saw in Monaco. The super-softs are not like they were in the past and, in the race, they last many laps. Therefore, I think there will be no problems either in qualifying or in the first stint of the race. »
Kimi Räikkönen (No. 7) – 9th and 4th
On the Finnish side, the day was, as often, split into two: The day’s program focused on different settings during the first session and a race simulation with both compounds in the second.
Despite a setback during FP1, the day has been productive and the 2007 world champion is quite confident: « This morning, due to a problem with my car, I couldn’t drive as much as planned, and that’s never a good thing […]. Thanks to the team’s quick work, in the afternoon, we managed to make up for the laps lost in the morning and, even though it’s too early to make predictions, overall, it’s not going too badly and at the end of the day, my impression of the car improved. I’m still not 100% happy with the handling of the F14-T, but I’m sure the analysis of the data collected will point us in the right direction for qualifying and the race. »
