Friday: Grosjean and Lotus in search of speed
For Lotus, the problem of the day - besides the few issues with Pastor Maldonado - was finding the speed they lack to tackle the straights of the Montreal circuit. Romain Grosjean is aiming for the top 10 in qualifying.
Romain Grosjean (No. 8) – 14th and 11th
Since the Monaco Grand Prix, Lotus has improved its E22 and the Franco-Swiss driver has noticed it: “We have made good progress with the car since Monaco, and the team has produced improvements in areas where we were struggling, so it has been a good day.”
In Montreal, one of the major problems for the Enstone team is the lack of top speed: « We knew we would struggle on the straights here, so we are doing everything to improve that. It seems we should be able to find more speed after looking at the data, and the weather conditions will be warmer, so we are going to work hard to get into the top 10 in qualifying tomorrow. »
Pastor Maldonado (No. 13) – 16th and 15th
For the Venezuelan, despite the encountered issues, the day was studious: « We had two or three small problems today, but we completed a good number of laps, so we know where to improve. »
He knows that the characteristics of the track favor the grouping of the drivers: « It’s a short lap here, so the times are very close; I was only two-tenths off Romain in the afternoon, but that means 15th on the screens instead of 11th. We know what we want from the car and what we want to achieve tomorrow in qualifying. »
