Hamilton thinks he is more “hungry” than Rosberg

The confrontation between the two Mercedes drivers turns to the advantage of Lewis Hamilton at the start of the season. The Englishman has a logical explanation for this, according to him, he is hungrier for the title than Nico Rosberg.

Hamilton thinks he is more “hungry” than Rosberg

The first five Grand Prix of the season saw the Mercedes dominate their rivals. Internally, it was Lewis Hamilton who won four races compared to just one for his teammate Nico Rosberg.

But sometimes, even if the German seems the fastest, he can’t assert himself against the determination and desire demonstrated by Hamilton. The latter analyzes the situation with pragmatism in an interview for the official F1 site: Let me tell you just one thing: I don’t come from a very great place in Stevenage and I lived on a couch in my father’s apartment. Nico, on the other hand, grew up in Monaco with jets, hotels, boats, and all that sort of things. It makes the appetite different.

The 2008 world champion thus highlights his grinta and modest origins to justify his dominating mindset at the start of the season: “I want to be the hungriest guy in the cockpit out of all 22 of us, even if every driver thinks they’re the hungriest. Because if I were to come here thinking Nico is hungrier than I am, then I might as well go home. I have to be the hungriest, and to win the world championship, you have to be.”

That said, the relationship between the two men remains cordial, even though the struggle at the top of the hierarchy prevents them from being truly close: « When you are so competitive, it’s impossible to be best friends. But it remains respectful. We will always have our karting years as a foundation, from a long time ago. »
