Alonso still awaits Mattiacci’s influence at Ferrari

After the dismissal of Stefano Domenicali from his position as Ferrari’s sporting director, Luca di Montezemolo chose to call upon Marco Mattiacci, a man behind the scenes, who was heading the commercial department in North America for the Italian brand.

Man of the inner circle, Mattiacci is nonetheless a novice in motorsport and especially in Formula 1. Therefore, it will be necessary to wait for him to adapt to his new environment before considering possible changes, as Fernando Alonso confirmed in Monaco: “He still has a lot to learn about the team, the Formula 1 environment, and the progress of a race weekend. He needs to gain some experience before he can make decisions.”

When our colleagues at Autosport asked the driver what has really changed since Mattiacci’s arrival, he replied: « Not much to be honest. And I don’t think it will happen soon. On our side, the drivers, the engineers, the mechanics, we arrive at a Grand Prix and we always have the same meetings at the same time, we don’t see any big differences. It’s the same when I go to Maranello to work, have preparation meetings, and train in the simulator… there hasn’t been any change in these areas this past month. »

The Spanish driver, rumored to be tired of the situation at Ferrari, concluded: « But it was not planned for there to be any changes during this first month because he [Mattiacci] does not yet have sufficient experience. »
