Barcelona Testing – Day 2 (morning): Maldonado leads Räikkönen and Rosberg
The F1 testing in Barcelona, on their second and final day, was dominated – at midday – by Pastor Maldonado's Lotus, ahead of Kimi Räikkönen's Ferrari and Nico Rosberg's Mercedes, which was equipped with the new "megaphone" exhaust.
The second day of testing at the Catalunya circuit took place under radiant sunshine. Participants include Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull), Nico Rosberg (Mercedes), Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari), Pastor Maldonado (Lotus), Stoffel Vandoorne (McLaren), Daniel Juncadella (Force India), Esteban Gutiérrez (Sauber), Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso), Susie Wolff (Williams), and Jules Bianchi (Marussia). Caterham will not be taking to the track following Kamui Kobayashi’s accident yesterday.
Like yesterday, the morning was marked by the appearance of four red flags: the first caused by Daniil Kvyat whose Toro Rosso stopped on track, the second by Susie Wolff who fell victim to a spin, the third by Daniel Juncadella (Force India), and the last once again caused by Kvyat.
This day was therefore an opportunity for Stoffel Vandoorne and Susie Wolff to complete their first laps at the wheel of the 2014 version single-seaters. The Belgian also completed the 300 km required to obtain his Super License this morning.
Chronometrically, Pastor Maldonado has currently set the fastest time of the day, ahead of Kimi Räikkönen and Nico Rosberg. The latter tried, early in the morning, the famous exhaust meant to increase the volume of sound coming from the V6 turbo engine. Observers on site did not note any significant difference. On the Red Bull side, Sebastian Vettel has not done much running.
