Saturday: Vergne promises a full attack at Toro Rosso
Tomorrow, Scuderia Toro Rosso will rely on Daniil Kvyat to aim for points and on an aggressive race from Jean-Eric Vergne to overcome his penalty.
Daniil Kvyat (No. 26) – 13th and 13th [12th on the grid]
For the young Russian, there wasn’t really the room to do much better, but he hopes to break into the top 10 in the race: « I think we got the most out of the package today, even though we might have been able to do better on certain things. But the race is tomorrow, and we’ve seen in the past that we can still bring back some points starting from P13. »
Jean-Eric Vergne (No. 25) – 12th and 16th [22nd on the grid]
Under the threat of a 10-place penalty, following the loss of a wheel during FP2, the Frenchman didn’t even bother to run during the second part of the qualifying: « It was part of the strategy not to race in Q2, to save fresh tires and prepare for an aggressive race tomorrow. I think it was a sensible decision to make. »
He promises, from the last row, an attacking race: « It is true that this is not the best circuit for overtaking, but I will do my best to pass the cars in front of me on the left, on the right, anywhere, seizing every opportunity. The car has been a bit tricky to drive throughout the weekend, except on the long runs, so I hope for a good race. »
