Canal +: Alain Prost to comment in Spain and Monaco
Luxury consultant for the encrypted channel, Alain Prost will even join the commentators' booth alongside Julien Fébreau for the upcoming Spanish and Monaco Grand Prix, replacing Jacques Villeneuve, who is occupied with his racing commitments.
Nearly 18 years after his last appearance behind a microphone to commentate on a Formula 1 race, Alain Prost is returning to service for the next two Grand Prix of the season in Spain (from May 9 to 11) and Monaco (from May 22 to 25).
Canal+ must indeed contend, during these two races, with the absence of Jacques Villeneuve who, in addition to his commitment in the World Rallycross Championship, will take part in the Indianapolis 500 miles which will be held on the same day as the race at the Principality circuit.
Additionally, Franck Montagny, who had acted as interim alongside Julien Fébreau last season during the Indian Grand Prix, will also be absent for the Spanish event, as he will be competing in the road race that will also take place in Indianapolis.
Alain Prost already commented on Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1992 and then between 1994 and 1995, on TF1. He notably had the opportunity to commentate on the tragic 1994 San Marino Grand Prix and the first victory of a French driver since his own retirement, during the 1995 Canadian Grand Prix with Jean Alesi’s success on Ferrari.
In the pits during the Spanish Grand Prix, it will be Jérôme D’Ambrosio who will take over for Franck Montagny. The Belgian, a former Formula 1 driver in 2011 for Virgin, is a regular contributor to the show Les Spécialistes F1 on Canal + Sport.
