Red Bull has prepared a new chassis for Vettel
The problems encountered by Sebastian Vettel while driving his Red Bull since the beginning of the season could stem from the chassis of his RB10. The Austrian team has decided to prepare a new one for him, which could be used as early as the next Grand Prix in Spain.
The head-to-head between Sebastian Vettel and his new teammate Daniel Ricciardo has been in favor of the latter since the beginning of the season. The four-time German world champion seems to be having the most difficulty getting a balanced car that allows him to attack to the limit as he was accustomed to in recent years.
After the Chinese Grand Prix, where the German was once again outpaced by the Australian, Christian Horner, Red Bull’s sporting director, highlighted the excessive tire wear of Vettel compared to his teammate. Helmut Marko, Dietrich Mateschitz’s advisor within the Austrian team, believes this issue could stem from the four-time world champion’s chassis: « We don’t understand why Vettel’s tires wear out faster than Ricciardo’s. We are currently analyzing the chassis to see if there is a defect. »
The solution seems to have already been found since a new chassis has been developed by the team and could be used by Vettel at the next Grand Prix in Spain in less than three weeks: « A new chassis is ready and Vettel will have it soon », confirms Marko before continuing: « This season is so complex that even the engineers don’t understand everything. This makes things even more difficult for Seb [Vettel] to have the car he wants. But he is a perfectionist, he won’t give up until everything gets better. »
In the drivers’ championship, Sebastian Vettel is currently 6th with 33 points, 9 points ahead of his teammate Daniel Ricciardo, who is 7th. Red Bull is second in the constructors’ championship with 57 points, far behind Mercedes with their 154 points.
