Sunday: Kvyat scores a new point for Toro Rosso, Vergne misses his start
After a solid qualification from Jean-Eric Vergne, the Frenchman missed his start, which compromised his race. Daniil Kvyat, on the other hand, made up for his poor qualification and secured 10th place.
Daniil Kvyat (No. 26) – 10th
After an average qualifying, the Russian driver was able to take advantage of opportunities in the race to secure the point for tenth place: “It was great today and I’m really happy with my performance.” His performance was built on a good start in which Daniil Kvyat gained several positions during the first lap. But the fight for tenth place was not easy: “Our pace was very strong and I enjoyed the battle with Jenson for most of the race.” Edd Straw, a journalist for *Autosport*, reported after the race that Kvyat even went to thank the 2009 World Champion for the battle he offered.
The Toro Rosso driver emphasizes the good work of his team: “We did a good job with tire management, which allowed us to stay on the track longer.” Despite a very good race, driver number 26 is eagerly awaiting the next race: “I think there’s more to get out of the car, so I’m really looking forward to starting the European season, where I hope to score some points.”
Jean-Eric Vergne (no. 25) – 12th
Despite a strong qualifying in ninth place, Jean-Eric Vergne lost this advantage on the first lap: « I had a bad start and a bad first lap. We need to understand why in order to improve this aspect. » Furthermore, the Frenchman was never able to get the most out of his soft tires: « I was stuck behind Button, so it was not possible to create a gap. »
The Frenchman does not want to forget the positive aspects of the weekend: « We had a really good qualifying session yesterday, the overall pace wasn’t bad, and we know exactly which direction to go in to improve. » Just like his teammate, whom he congratulates on a good race, he looks forward to the next Grand Prix: « I am convinced that we can be stronger in a few weeks in Barcelona. »
