Friday: Vergne confident for the race with Toro Rosso
The first free practice sessions were rather good for Scuderia Toro Rosso: Jean-Eric Vergne is confident after the long runs and Daniil Kvyat quickly got to grips with the Chinese track.
Jean-Eric Vergne (No. 25) – 7th and 13th
The day was rather good for the Frenchman, who noted strong performances on fuel-laden stints: « It was a normal Friday. Today we had to work on the long runs, during which we seemed very good. We are confident that we have a good car for Sunday. »
On the other hand, for the qualifying session, the performances are not there, and the weather uncertainty doesn’t help: « For tomorrow, I think we still have work to do. The weather forecasts clearly predict rain, so it is difficult to say what to expect. »
Daniil Kvyat (No. 26) – 11th and 10th
For his first visit to the Shanghai track, the Russian was not particularly intimidated by the circuit: « It was a good Friday, and it didn’t take me long to get to know the track. I found it quite simple, and we were able to start working on our basic settings quickly. »
The day was calm, and now the work will take place off-track to achieve a good result during the qualifications: « We managed to complete our program and gather a lot of data to study tonight. I hope we will find a good compromise for tomorrow. »
