No surprise, Nico Rosberg is dominating the first day of testing in Bahrain at the moment (to follow live on MotorsInside), ahead of the Grand Prix that took place this Sunday. The German was both the fastest and the most diligent on track, demonstrating Mercedes’ determination not to rest on their laurels.
He is followed by three drivers equipped with Mercedes engines: Nico Hülkenberg (Force India), Kevin Magnussen (McLaren), and Valtteri Bottas (Williams), in line with Sunday’s race on a track that particularly suits the more powerful German V6 block.
Behind them, the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso, which was the cause of the first of the two red flags of the morning around 9:55 am. Then, the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo, which took to the track after an hour.
The Russian Sergey Sirotkin took the wheel of the Sauber C33 to secure his Super License. Robin Frijns (Caterham), on the other hand, is conducting tests on behalf of Pirelli, as permitted by the regulations, so that the manufacturer can best prepare for the future.
Pastor Maldonado did little running in the early morning but has since caught up. Max Chilton was the cause of the second red flag.
