Sunday: Vergne unlucky, Kvyat not fast enough for Toro Rosso

After two consecutive points finishes and promising practice sessions, the Toro Rosso team leaves the Bahrain Grand Prix empty-handed. Jean-Eric Vergne's chances were ruined by a contact on the first lap, while the STR9 simply wasn't fast enough to allow Daniil Kvyat to get into the points.

Sunday: Vergne unlucky, Kvyat not fast enough for Toro Rosso

Daniil Kvyat – 11th

First point-less finish for Daniil Kvyat who had a tough day: Unfortunately, the day did not go as I would have liked. I wasn’t happy with our pace, and it was frustrating to see other cars overtake me like that. Combined with a relatively poor start, it wasn’t enough to score points today.

From now on, the Toro Rosso driver wants to focus on the next race in Shanghai: « We will need to carefully analyze what went wrong today, and hopefully come back stronger for the next race in China. »

Jean-Eric Vergne – Retirement

The race for the Frenchman was relatively short, with an accident in the first lap: « There were a lot of cars around me entering turn 8. While the others had a bad corner exit, I managed to exit well on the outside. »

But a contact with a Lotus put an end to his race: « As I was putting more and more pressure on a Lotus, when he realized that I was going to overtake him in any case, he simply closed the door. Our wheels touched and my car went out of control. »

This incident caused damage to the rear wing and the floor, which resulted in a significant loss of aerodynamic performance on the STR9. After two consecutive retirements that must remind him of his 2013 season, Jean-Eric Vergne hopes to put an end to his bad luck: « Let’s hope that bad luck will leave us alone in the upcoming races. »
