Towards Two New Teams in Formula 1, According to Ecclestone
After almost confirming the arrival of Haas Racing Developments, Bernie Ecclestone, present in Bahrain, indicated that two new teams are expected.
The tender launched at the end /f1/actualite/16723-officiel-la-fia-lance-un-appel-doffres-pour-une-nouvelle-equipe.html was expected to result in the arrival of only one team in Formula 1 for 2015, at the earliest, but it seems that two teams might be accepted in the top discipline, according to Bernie Ecclestone.
Thus, speaking to Sky Sports, the FOM president reaffirmed, after having already done so earlier in the week, that the application of Gene Haas, founder of the American company Haas Automotion, was on a very good path: « They will be accepted. »
But the information – which had already been mentioned a few weeks ago – is that it is actually two teams that could be registered: « We have also accepted another team. Whether they come or not is another story. We would be happy to have two more teams. »
The tender had been launched by the FIA, but Bernie Ecclestone’s agreement is essential, as he is the manager of the sport’s commercial interests. In this respect, Jean Todt, president of the Federation, seems to have agreed to adjust the body’s position: « I spoke to Jean Todt about this. We agreed yesterday that if two teams want to come, we will let them come. »
The decision is therefore in the hands of this potential second team, which should be, in all likelihood, <a href="/f1//f1/actualite/17261-haas-racing-bientot-en-f1-.html/actualite/16836-F1-La-FIA-en-negociation-avec-3-ecuries-pour-2015.html" target="_blank" title="FIA in negotiation with 3 teams for 2015">a consortium of Romanian companies in which Colin Kolles</a>, former HRT director, would be involved and be the leading figure.
