Vettel and Todt will meet in Bahrain
Following the comments made by Sebastian Vettel last weekend regarding the noise of the new V6 turbo hybrid engines, Jean Todt, the president of the FIA, who is present today in Bahrain, has decided to meet the German champion to clarify the situation.
The noise of the new power units is one of the hot topics at the start of this season. In this period of major changes for Formula 1, many enthusiasts and stakeholders in the discipline are struggling to adapt and get used to the new habits imposed by the new regulations.
When interviewed last weekend in Malaysia about the noise produced by the new hybrid engines, Sebastian Vettel had bluntly stated: “It’s crap!”
Following these comments, Jean Todt, the re-elected president of the FIA, was approached regarding these remarks and wrote a letter to the Red Bull driver to complain about his statements and attitude, although his right to free speech was not questioned. The content of this letter has not been made public, but it is learned today in Bahrain that the two men have decided to meet to discuss this incident and to review this new Formula 1, after already two races in.
Vettel confirms this interview to Autosport: « It’s quite normal for us to have a meeting after a few races. Mr. Todt is coming to Bahrain, and it makes sense for us to have the opportunity to talk about certain things. »
Christian Horner, the sporting director of Red Bull Racing, had publicly supported his driver by stating that he should be applauded for saying what he thinks.
