Malaysian Grand Prix: Bianchi and Magnussen Receive Two Penalty Points
Judged responsible for the incidents they were involved in, Jules Bianchi and Kevin Magnussen received, in addition to their 5-second race penalty, two penalty points on their respective licenses.
Newly introduced this season, it didn’t take long for the first penalties to be issued: yesterday, it was Valtteri Bottas, judged responsible for obstructing Daniel Ricciardo, who opened the ball for penalty points credited to each driver’s license.
Today, the stewards decided to sanction Jules Bianchi – deemed responsible for the collision with Pastor Maldonado – and Kevin Magnussen – guilty of hitting Kimi Räikkönen. Both drivers also received a penalty of two penalty points, in addition to a 5-second time penalty to be served during pit stops.
As a reminder, when drivers accumulate a total of 12 penalty points over 12 months, they are automatically suspended for the next race.
For his part, victim of a poor pit stop by his team that released him before the left-front wheel was secured, Daniel Ricciardo will be penalized with 10 grid positions for the next Grand Prix in Bahrain on April 6, as the regulations stipulate.
