Malaysian Grand Prix: Bottas Penalized, Kvyat/Alonso Collision without Consequences

Following the investigations conducted at the end of the qualifications for the Malaysian Grand Prix, the stewards decided to penalize Valtteri Bottas with a three-position grid penalty for having impeded Daniel Ricciardo during Q2.

« After speaking with both drivers, the stewards decided that the Finn did not pay attention to the fact that Ricciardo’s car was approaching and continued to impede Australia in turns 14 and 15. » Bottas is now 18th on the starting grid, allowing Romain Grosjean, Pastor Maldonado, and Adrian Sutil to gain one position each. The statement also notes that he received two penalty points on his license.

Regarding the incident between Daniil Kvyat and Fernando Alonso, also in Q2, the stewards decided not to impose any penalty on anyone.
