Rosberg likes the new driving style of F1 cars

Nico Rosberg, winner of the first Grand Prix of the season in Australia, enjoys the new challenge that Formula 1 presents this season. Despite all the criticisms already heard about this new formula, the German driver still takes great pleasure in driving his single-seater. Moreover, he urges Mercedes not to rest on its laurels from Melbourne, as the competition could quickly catch up with them.

If many criticisms have been raised concerning the new order imposed in Formula 1, there are certain drivers for whom these changes have been exciting. Unsurprisingly, Nico Rosberg, winner of the first race of the season, is among them.

For the Mercedes driver, who spoke in the pages of *Autosport*, driving economically and adapting his driving style to a specific strategy are also integral parts of the science of driving: « Driving wisely is very fun too! It’s slower than last year, which I’m not too fond of for sure, but I’ve gotten used to it, and I don’t really notice anymore. It’s good for Formula 1. It’s very contemporary. Being mindful of energy savings is the right direction to take. It’s really good, even though in the car it’s still very complicated because there’s a lot to do, and it will take us some time to be at the top with it. »

The first Grand Prix of the season in Australia confirmed Mercedes’ good form. Even though the team was unable to get both cars in the points following Lewis Hamilton’s early retirement, Nico Rosberg’s victory confirmed the qualities of the new W05.

But despite this good start to the year, the German driver remains concerned, focused, and realistic, urging his team not to rest on their laurels gathered in Melbourne: « It’s still very early in the season, and there are still many things we can do better. We must maintain our momentum and not let our rivals catch up to us. With such an advantage, it’s possible to have some confidence. It’s a new situation for us, and we need to make sure we keep working. And I am confident that is what we will do. »

Rosberg intends to rely on the talent and professionalism of people experienced in victory since the Brawn GP era (the team on which Mercedes was built), world champion in 2009 with Jenson Button: « Many people from Brawn GP are still here today and they know what it means to be at the front and how to stay there. We must not rest now, our rivals will push like crazy. We are fast. We have the fastest car, which is great. It’s really an amazing feeling. We are confident. »
