Massa gives an update on Michael Schumacher
Before the test days scheduled in Bahrain last week, Felipe Massa stated that he visited Michael Schumacher, who is still in a coma following his ski accident at the end of last year. The Brazilian revealed that his former teammate at Ferrari responded in his presence with mouth movements.
Numerous rumors, all more or less wild, are circulating about the health condition of Michael Schumacher, who has been in a coma for several weeks following a skiing accident in the French resort of Méribel last December. The latest official news provided by the close circle of the seven-time world champion reported a reduction in the sedatives administered to the German to begin a wake-up phase. Since then, no further official information has been released.
However, during the test days in Bahrain, Felipe Massa told The Independent that he visited his former teammate’s bedside and shared his impressions on the German’s health status: « I always try to stay optimistic. I saw him, I talked to him, I told him everything I did in Jerez with my car, the new team and all that. I asked him to wake up, several times. I remain positive. I think we have to believe in it. He is a very strong man, a very great man, and I really hope he wakes up and enjoys life again. »
But despite this displayed optimism, the new Williams driver remains very cautious about Michael Schumacher’s condition: « It’s always very difficult to say because I have no experience with what the doctors say. I saw him and was very happy to be with him for a long time, to talk to him and try to give the best energy to help him. He sleeps, and that reassured me because he seemed normal. »
Moreover, Massa had the impression that Schumacher was reacting to his presence, even though it’s still the opinion of a layman: « He also had some reactions with his mouth so that’s positive. But I have no experience to say anything. I am not a doctor. But when I saw him, to me, it looked very positive. »
