Mercedes: Lewis Hamilton’s crash ends the test day

Toto Wolff, director of Mercedes AMG, indicated that following Lewis Hamilton’s major accident in turn no. 1 at the Circuit de Jerez, where the first private tests of the 2014 season are taking place, the German team would not be running anymore today.

The accident, which occurred around 1 p.m., was caused by a failure of the front wing of the Mercedes W05, which apparently went under the car, preventing the driver of #44 from being able to turn. He then violently crashed head-on into the tire wall. He emerged unscathed.

According to *Auto Motor und Sport*, Mercedes will fly in reinforced mounts for its front wing. They do not have them on site in Jerez, which would therefore explain the end of their testing day.
