Official: Charles Pic leaves Caterham
For several weeks, the fate of French driver Charles Pic at Caterham seemed in danger. The confirmation of his departure was given this Monday, January 20th by Cyril Abiteboul.
In committing for “several seasons” at the end of 2012 with Caterham, Charles Pic certainly would not have thought that he would be replaced at the end of his first year with the Malaysian team. But, a lackluster season and certainly insufficient support hastened his downfall.
Interrogated by Infosport +, Cyril Abiteboul confirmed that the Frenchman would no longer be with Caterham in 2014: « Charles, unfortunately will not be with us next year. It’s a shame that the adventure between Caterham and Charles is ending. However, personally, I would like to thank Charles for the work he has done last year. He has a certain talent that can find more resonance and manifest itself more in a more mature, more important team. »
Most likely, Caterham is expected to call upon Kamui Kobayashi to replace Pic. The latter could bounce back at Lotus F1 as a third driver.
