The new McLaren reportedly failed the FIA crash test
While the next McLaren team's single-seater is expected to be the first to be unveiled in 2014, it seems that it has failed the series of crash tests mandated by the FIA before its approval.
The website F1.co.uk reports that McLaren’s brand new car, the MP4/29, designed by engineer Matt Morris (former technical director of Sauber), has very recently failed the FIA crash tests required at the beginning of the year before chassis approval.
This unexpected setback, while the team was supposed to be the first to present its version today, could very well delay the British team’s testing program. Like Lotus, it’s possible that McLaren may not participate in the first tests of the season scheduled on the Jerez circuit from January 28 to 31.
The season is marked by change at McLaren. First of all, with the drivers, as the young Kevin Magnussen replaces Sergio Pérez, but also in its current and future organization with the return of Ron Dennis at the helm of the McLaren Group, replacing Martin Whitmarsh, and the upcoming arrival of Honda as engine supplier, scheduled for 2015.
