Official: Ron Dennis takes back the helm of the McLaren Group!

Appointed today as the head of the McLaren Group, Ron Dennis is therefore back in business after having left his previous important position as head of McLaren F1 in 2009. This appointment effectively ends Martin Whitmarsh’s tenure in this role. A situation that could threaten the current director of the McLaren team.

Ron Dennis is tasked, through this appointment, with improving the performance of the McLaren Group. The on-track performance in 2013 was meager for the Woking-based company, which did not achieve a single podium for the first time since 1980. The former McLaren F1 director expressed his excitement about returning to this role: “My fellow shareholders have mandated me to write an exciting chapter in McLaren’s history, starting with improving our performance on and off the track. In the coming weeks, I intend to conduct a thorough and objective review of each of our businesses with the aim of optimizing every aspect of our existing activities while identifying new areas for growth that would leverage our technologies and where it would be possible to invest even more appropriately.”

« In February, I will articulate a new strategy for the group and establish the organizational structure best suited for its achievement. I am excited about the prospect of returning to the role of CEO and working with my many colleagues and other shareholders to fulfill our objectives – which is to succeed in everything we do, » he stated, as reported by ESPN.
