Official: Max Chilton confirmed by Marussia
In 2014, the Marussia team will run with the same driver duo as in 2013 since Max Chilton has just been officially confirmed.
The list of entrants published on Friday, January 10 by the FIA had already largely revealed the identity of the second Marussia driver, but it is now official information: Max Chilton will support Jules Bianchi, as he did last season, in the seat of the second car for the Russian team. For the first time since its debut in 2010, the team based in Banbury will field the same lineup for two consecutive seasons.
Max Chilton, 22, confirmed this on Marussia’s official site: “I am really happy to continue with Marussia for a second season. Continuity is important for the team but also for me as a driver. You learn a lot during your first season, but the second year is when you can really use all those new experiences and show your true potential. It has always been the case for me in the lower categories, and I hope for a similar trajectory in my second year in F1,” stated the young Briton, who completed 19 races without retiring in his first season.
I would like to thank the Marussia F1 team for their trust and constant support. They are a group of people who work extremely hard and are ambitious, and I am looking forward to embarking on our 2014 season challenge with them.
John Booth, the team director, expressed his delight at this extension: “We are happy to confirm that Max will continue with the team in 2014. With regard to regulatory changes, continuity is key, so it is very beneficial for our technical team to keep the same driver duo. Max had an impressive first season last year and, obviously, set a new rookie record by finishing all 19 races. He can rightfully be proud of the progress he made during the 2013 season.”
