Massa: Vettel deserves his success
Felipe Massa, Williams driver in 2014, spoke about Sebastian Vettel: he believes that the Red Bull driver is talented and that he is the main architect of the victories he has been accumulating since 2009.
After Mark Webber a few weeks ago, it is now Felipe Massa’s turn to praise Sebastian Vettel. The new Williams driver, as reported by TotalRace, a Brazilian site, emphasized the talent and hard work of the four-time world champion.
To the question that many are asking about the driver’s role in these successes, the former Ferrari driver answers without hesitation: « It was due to his talent, without a shadow of a doubt. He is an excellent driver who deserves everything he wins. Many people say he only wins because he has the best car, but the work he has done is impressive and, by continuing with a competitive car, he can win more. »
Felipe Massa thus positions himself as a counter-voice to a part of the public who, on social networks or specialized sites, do not hesitate to assert that Sebastian Vettel is a world champion who only benefits from the superiority of the equipment provided to him. Fernando Alonso has, on several occasions, indicated that he was mostly fighting against the designer of the cars driven by Vettel. As a reminder, the German led his Red Bull to victory thirteen times, including nine consecutive wins in the last nine races of the season, when his teammate Mark Webber did not win a Grand Prix.
If he recognizes the talent of the German, the 2008 world vice-champion refuses any comparison with his illustrious predecessors: « Drivers start F1 earlier now. You can’t compare anyone to Fittipaldi, Stewart, or Schumacher, who also arrived in F1 later than Vettel. This reality increases the possibility for younger drivers to claim more titles than in the past. »
